How to make a chocolate filled pastry tree

What you need:

2 sheets of pre-rolled pastry

Chocolate spread

Baking Tray

Baking parchment

Egg yolk

Pastry brush

Oven pre-heated to 180 degrees

The process:

Roll out one sheet of pastry on to the baking tray and parchment.

Using a knife trace out a Christmas tree shape with a base for the tree and remove any excess pastry from around the shape.

Spread the chocolate evenly all over the tree shape, taking care not to use too much or go over the edges.

Roll out a second sheet of pastry over the top and press down lightly so that you can see the shape underneath.

Again, take your knife, cut around the outline and remove the excess pastry.

Now cut horizontal lines going from the outside of the tree towards the centre, leaving a gap for the trunk of the tree.

Once you have cut the lines, take the piece of pastry and twist towards yourself.

Do this all the way up the tree on both sides.

Glaze the tree with a beaten egg using a pastry brush.

Pop your tree into a pre-heated oven for 15-20 mins or until it goes a golden-brown colour.

Remove the tree, leave to set for 15 mins then dust lightly with icing sugar.

You’re now ready to serve to your festive Christmas guests
