How to make marble effect drinks coasters

What you need:

Polymer clay in white, grey and black

Round cookie cutter

Rolling pin

Gold leaf

Small brush

Baking parchment

Fine sandpaper

Oven pre-heated to 150 degrees

The process:

Take some white polymer clay (warm it up in your hands) and roll it into a sausage shape.

Break small pieces of grey and black clay and press into the white clay, then knead all three together.

Roll it out, putting parchment paper on top to avoid any mess. Continue to roll and fold using a rolling pin until you see a marble effect appear.

When you’re happy roll it out so that the clay is a thickness of around 0.5cm. Use the parchment to cover while you roll out to stop the clay from sticking to the rolling pin

Using the cookie cutter, cut the clay into rounds

Place the baking paper and rounds on to a baking tray and place in a pre-heated oven for 10-15 mins.

Remove from the oven and leave to cool for approx.. 1 hour

Once cool, sand the edges to smooth them before adding glue.

With your hands, add some gold leaf and gently brush off the excess

To finish, stack up your coasters, tie with a ribbon and give as a gift or place on the table and set your drinks glass on top!
